Jury in Adenhart case sees defendant’s interview

SANTA ANA, Calif. — The man accused of murder in the collision that killed Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others told police afterward that he blanked out driving home from a bar.

Orange County prosecutors played a videotape of the interview Monday in the murder case against 23-year-old Andrew Gallo.

Gallo told police he only remembered the crash as a blur and did not know how it happened. After being told by police that three people were killed, Gallo said he had done a horrible thing.

The April 2009 crash occurred at a Fullerton intersection just hours after the 22-year-old Adenhart pitched six scoreless innings in his Angels season debut. Two of his companions died and another was critically injured.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Jurors hearing the murder case against a man accused of causing a drunken-driving collision that killed a promising Los Angeles Angels pitcher are hearing the defendant’s version of events through a videotaped police interview.

Prosecutors in Orange County will continue to play the hour-long tape of Andrew Gallo’s interview on Monday as they wrap up their portion of the case.

The 23-year-old Gallo has pleaded not guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of 22-year-old Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, 20-year-old Courtney Stewart and 25-year-old Henry Pearson.

Prosecutors say Gallo’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when the crash occurred in April 2009 in Fullerton.
