DA focuses on interview in Angels pitcher’s death

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Jurors hearing the murder case against a man accused of causing a drunken-driving collision that killed a promising Los Angeles Angels pitcher are hearing the defendant’s version of events through a videotaped police interview.

Prosecutors in Orange County will continue to play the hour-long tape of Andrew Gallo’s interview on Monday as they wrap up their portion of the case.

The 23-year-old Gallo has pleaded not guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of 22-year-old Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, 20-year-old Courtney Stewart and 25-year-old Henry Pearson.

Prosecutors say Gallo’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when the crash occurred in April 2009 in Fullerton.
