BALTIMORE (GaeaTimes.com)- A 50 year old man by the name of Paul Warren Pardus went hysterical on Thursday morning at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore when the doctor briefed him on his mothers condition after which he shot the doctor in the abdomen. The shooting did not end there, He rushed into his mothers room where he holed himself for about two hours after which they were both discovered dead. The man had shot his mother and then himself in the head. The doctor shot was identified as orthopedic surgeon David B. Cohen by his colleagues and is expected to survive.

The suspect was first identified as Warren Davis but later on as Paul Warren Pardus. The police suspect the original name given was used as an alias. The man who went on this short shooting spree at Johns Hopkins hospital killing his own mother is reported as being a very caring son by his neighbors on South Kenmore street. They did not seem to think of anything ever being wrong with him. The suspects 59 year old brother Alvin Gibson said that perhaps his brother could not stand the traumatic condition of his mother and thinking that as her surgical treatment did not yield any result she would not be able to walk again and this made him lose control.

The incident also raises questions on the safety of patients and doctors at Johns Hopkins hospital. Free gun ownership in USA is one reason being attributed to the problem of shootouts that have happened at workplaces, schools and many other places. The Johns Hopkins hospital shooting being the most recent example. Violence in hospitals have been increasing lately as per the estimates of the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration there are 2,600 non fatal attacks on hospital staff each year. This latest incident at Johns Hopkins hospital is clearly shouting out for improved security measures for doctors and patients.
