911 calls detail Johns Hopkins shooting aftermath

BALTIMORE — A frightened patient at Johns Hopkins Hospital told 911 operators that her parents were trying to keep the door to her room shut after they heard gunfire.

Recordings of 911 released Friday to The Associated Press detail the tense moments after a man opened fire on a surgeon who was updating him on his mother’s condition. The doctor, identified as Dr. David Cohen, was wounded, but is expected to survive.

Another caller tells an operator she was standing near the doctor when he was shot. She says the shooter ran back into a room and people began screaming at others to run.

Police say the shooter, Paul Pardus, killed his 84-year-old mother and himself.
