Man stabbed at Kansas City community college

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police say a man was stabbed at a community college just moments before Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was scheduled to give a speech there.

The stabbing at Penn Valley Community College on Tuesday occurred about 15 minutes before the governor was scheduled to hold a news conference. A spokeswoman for the governor said he was still at the airport when the attack occurred. His speech was canceled.

Police did not identify the victim, but The Kansas City Star reported he was a dean at the college. He was hospitalized in serious condition.

Witnesses told police that a man in his 20s walked up the victim and, without provocation, stabbed him in the neck. Witnesses tackled the suspect and held him until officers arrived.
