Woman Maoist held in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD - A suspected woman Maoist was arrested in Gujarat’s Surat district, police said Monday.

The woman, identified as Sujatha, was arrested in Mangrol town of the district. She hails from Andhra Pradesh but lived in Mumbai till 2002.

Allegedly in close contact with top Maoist leaders, she had been a frequent visitor to Gujarat and was entrusted with the responsibility of strengthening the Maoist network in the state.

The woman was brought before a local court and has been remanded to police custody till Aug 25.
