Man who turned in religious relic arrested in NH

HANOVER, N.H. — A man who had a stolen relic that Roman Catholics believe contains a piece of the original crucifix has been arrested in New Hampshire.

Police say 34-year-old Earl Frost, who is described as a transient, was taken into custody Tuesday on an unrelated warrant while filling a prescription in Hanover.

Charges of possession of stolen property are pending against Frost in Vermont. He turned in the relic stolen from a Boston cathedral to police there on Aug. 9 but then disappeared. He told police he got it from someone in Rhode Island.

Officials with the Cathedral Of The Holy Cross traveled to Vermont on Saturday and confirmed it was genuine.

Police say it’s not known whether Frost has a lawyer or will be represented by a public defender.
