The Saturday crash took place at an off-road race in Southern California’s Mojave Desert. The driver ran over 8 people to their death as his truck crashed into a crowd of spectators during the race.
The 200-mile race was part of an amateur series on a course in the Lucerne Valley area of San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles. Four people were taken to hospitals in serious condition and five others suffered minor injuries.
Mario Lopez, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said,
“The reason we are not going to file criminal charges is because it was a sanctioned event.”
Reportedly, U.S. Bureau of Land Management owns the land, where the accident occurred. They will look after any safety violations that took place, assisted by agencies that handle permitted events.
