Six, including medic, killed in Iraq attacks

BAGHDAD - Six people, including a medic, were killed and four others injured in attacks in Iraq Wednesday, officials in the country said.

Intisar Mohammed Ali, director of the al-Iwiya hospital in Baghdad’s central neighbourhood of al-Arasat was killed by unknown gunman, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

The gunmen broke into her home, shot and killed her and then robbed the residence before fleeing.

North of the capital, outside the city of Baquba, five Iraqi soldiers were killed and four others injured in an attack blamed by security sources on Al Qaeda affiliated groups.

The attack occurred as members of the Iraqi Army Fifth Division raided a home in an arrest operation.

Gunmen attacked the soldiers and detonated several explosives that were hidden around the building, completely destroying the house, according to official.

In Mosul, 400 km north of Baghdad, an arrest operation netted a leader in Al Qaeda.

The man, whose name has not yet been announced, was arrested during a security operation in the neighbourhood of al-Qahera.
