TEHRAN - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad escaped an assassination attempt Wednesday when a blast hit one of the vehicles of his cavalcade, a media report said. Iran’s Press TV, however, denied the report.
Al Arabiya TV reported the blast took place in the western city of Hamadan as the president was about to address a crowd. The attacker was arrested on the spot.
The bomb hit a car carrying journalists and presidential staff, Al Arabiya cited its own sources as saying.
Later, Ahmadinejad appeared on an Iranian television at a sports stadium in Hamadan. He was apparently well and made no mention of any attack.
Speaking to Press TV, an informed source in Iran’s presidential office rejected as false the reports of attack on President Ahmadinejad.
The source said no such attack took place.
