Police: 5 die as bomber strikes in NW Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Police say a suicide bomber has killed five people in northwest Pakistan near the home of a provincial government minister and outspoken critic of the Taliban whose only son was shot dead by suspected Islamist militants last week.

Police official Liaquat Ali Khan says 10 people also were wounded in the attack Monday in Khan Sher Ghari village of Nowshera district.

The target may have been Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the information minister of Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province. Hussain’s son was killed by gunmen on Saturday.

The province lies along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. Militants have launched numerous attacks there, including against government leaders.
