RAIPUR J - Nearly a hundred Maoists damaged a school building Monday in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.

The guerillas carried out the attack early Monday at Puspal village, some 500 km south from Raipur, in Dantewada that is described one of the worst Maoist-hit districts of India.

Maoists, armed with spades, axes and other traditional weapons, damaged a major portion of the government higher secondary school and its hostel building as well, officials at the police headquarters here told IANS.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar) T.J. Longkumer told reporters at Jagdalpur town that forces have been rushed to the site to assess the damage and apprehend the attackers.
