RANCHI - Angry villagers lynched two Maoists in Jharkhand’s Latehar district after the rebels assaulted some people and demanded money, police said Friday.

Five Maoists of the Jharkhand Jan Sangharsh Mukti Morcha went to Jalim village, around 130 km from here, late Thursday and demanded money from the villagers.

“They also roughed up some people. This angered the villagers who started pelting stones and beat them with sticks and iron rods,” a police officer said.

“Three of the five rebels managed to escape while the remaining two were lynched. The two lynched rebels have been identified as Tupu Singh and Mumtaz Mia,” the police officer said.

Police reached the village Friday morning and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
