Militant killed in Jammu and Kashmir

RAJOURI - A militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, police said on Sunday.

The encounter took place in Kalakote area of the district.

Talking to the mediapersons, Brigadier N. P. Singh said that after a tip-off, army officials began a search operation in which a militant was killed.

“The search began after sunset yesterday. We got information that there is some activity in…after which we had surrounded the area. And in the morning when it was raining around 4.30-5 am, we spotted a militant and we attacked him without giving him an opportunity to fire, and he was killed,” Singh said.

The recovered items include one AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 268-Round, four hand grenades, one wireless set and a cell phone.

This is the third big operation in the Rajouri region in which about 15 militants have been killed in the last three months. (ANI)
