BAGHDAD - A series of bomb attacks targeting Shia pilgrims here has killed 54 people and left 359 injured, an interior ministry source said Thursday.
“A total of 51 pilgrims were killed and 318 wounded in Wednesday’s attacks, including the suicide bombing of Adamiyah district in Baghdad,” the source told Xinhua.
A roadside bomb went off Thursday morning near a procession of Shia pilgrims in southeastern Baghdad, killing three pilgrims and wounding 31 others, he said.
In another incident, 10 Shia pilgrims were wounded when a car exploded near their procession in the southwestern part of the capital, the report said.
About one million pilgrims from Baghdad and other provinces are expected to gather near the Imam Mussa al-Kadhim shrine in Kadhmiyah district for the annual commemoration of the death of the seventh of the most sacred 12 Shia Imams.
