Verdict reached in Kan. doctor’s trial

WICHITA, Kan. — Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of a Kansas doctor and his wife accused of running a painkiller “pill mill.”

Federal prosecutors have linked the Haysville clinic operated by Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda, with 68 overdose deaths.

Officials said the panel reached its verdict Thursday, the seventh day of deliberations in the case. It was unclear how soon the verdicts would be read in court.

The Schneiders were charged with 34 counts of fraud, money laundering and unlawfully prescribing drugs. If convicted, they face up to life in prison.
