Trial postponed in beating of elderly fisherman

BALTIMORE — The trial of two men accused in the unprovoked beating of an elderly black fisherman has been postponed.

One of them, Calvin Lockner, is a convicted sex offender with a tattoo of Adolf Hitler on his midsection. Lockner belongs to a white supremacist group and told police the beating wouldn’t have happened had the victim been white.

Also charged is 18-year-old Zachary Watson, who told police he didn’t participate in the beating. A second teenager had his case moved to juvenile court.

The charges include armed carjacking and armed robbery in the attack on James Privott (pruh-VAHT’) as he fished in a south Baltimore park last August.

A spokesman for the Baltimore state’s attorney’s office says the trial was postponed to Sept. 27 at the request of the defense.
