Huge cache of explosives recovered in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW - A huge cache of explosives was recovered from a forest area of Maoist-infested Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, police said Monday, adding that the arms had been kept there by the Leftwing ultras.
The explosives, including 150 gelatin rods, 10 detonators, a 20-kg can bomb and a bundle of fuse wires were recovered late Sunday from the Devdar forest in the Kon area, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the explosives were hidden by a Maoist group to target police officials in Sonbhadra,” Superintendent of Police P.P. Singh told reporters.
“The explosives were kept by members of the dreaded Munna Vishwakarma gang, which forms part of the Maoist cadre,” he added.
Following the recovery of the explosives, police have initiated an intensive combing operation in Sonbhadra.
