Suspect: White supremacist made sexual advance

BRANDON, Miss. — Authorities in Mississippi say the man accused of killing a well-known white supremacist confessed to attacking the man after he made sexual advances on him.

Vincent McGee was arraigned Tuesday and his charges were upgraded to capital murder in the death of Richard Bennett.

Investigators testified that McGee gave them inconsistent statements about what led McGee, who is black, to go over to Barrett’s house.

McGee claims Barrett propositioned him for sex, prompting McGee to beat and stab him. He’s accused of then setting the house on fire in an effort to cover up the slaying.

The case will be presented to a grand jury. The next grand jury meets in June. McGee is being held without bond.
