Minn. Somali to plead guilty to lying to FBI

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota man has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors in a case linked with the investigation of missing Somali men from the Minneapolis area.

Judge James Rosenbaum scheduled a change of plea hearing for Tuesday for Abdow M. Abdow of Chanhassen.

Abdow’s attorney, Earl Gray, said Monday that Abdow has agreed to plead guilty to lying to the FBI, and prosecutors have agreed not to seek any terrorism-related enhancements to his sentence.

Abdow, who’s of Somali descent, was charged last year with lying to the FBI after the Nevada Highway Patrol stopped a car in which he was riding near Las Vegas. The driver was on a terror watch list.

Authorities had initially linked the case to the investigation of the missing men, who are thought to have joined a terrorist group in their homeland.
