Feds announce arrest in east Texas explosives case

DALLAS — Federal authorities say a man has been arrested in connection with a series of explosive devices found in east Texas mailboxes during the past month.

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales says an east Texas man was arrested Wednesday without incident in Tyler.

Two more suspicious devices also were found in Tyler on Wednesday. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman Tom Crowley didn’t immediately have details about the devices.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says details about the suspect will be released at a Thursday news conference.

Not counting Wednesday’s discoveries, authorities have said at least 14 explosive devices were found since the beginning of March. Five were reported pipe bombs. None has detonated and no injuries have been reported.
