Nigeria: No ransom demand for sports journalists

LAGOS, Nigeria — A spokeswoman says an African satellite network has received no ransom demand for three of its journalists kidnapped in Nigeria.

MultiChoice Africa spokeswoman Caroline Creasy says those kidnapped Monday in the restive Niger Delta region include a cameraman, an audio mixer and a commentator for the SuperSport network.

They were in Nigeria to film a soccer match when armed gunmen stopped their van near an airport in Owerri.

Creasy says a Nigerian cameraman was shot in the leg during the attack, but is in stable condition at a hospital.

Creasy says the van carrying 21 people and equipment was traveling without private security, something unusual for companies operating in a region where militants and criminals look for kidnapping targets.
