Concrete exec tried suicide after NYC conviction

NEW YORK — Newly released court documents show a concrete-testing company president tried to kill himself after being convicted of doctoring results for such iconic New York City buildings as ground zero’s centerpiece tower.

A court transcript released Thursday shows V. Reddy Kancharla’s lawyers told a judge he had cut his wrist and taken several sleeping pills Feb. 19.

The suicide attempt came two days after he heard the first of a series of guilty verdicts in a racketeering case against him and his company, Testwell Laboratories Inc.

The judge sealed the transcript until Thursday, the day after the final verdict was delivered in Kancharla’s absence.

Kancharla lawyer Paul Shechtman says Kancharla has recovered and resolved to appeal.
