Next-door neighbor arrested in Ohio house blast

CLEVELAND — A man who lived next door has been arrested in a house explosion and fire in Cleveland that caused widespread damage.

Police spokesman Sgt. Sammy Morris says 57-year-old William Calderwood was taken into custody late Wednesday on an aggravated arson warrant issued earlier in the day.

Fire department spokesman Larry Gray says there’s evidence that Calderwood was involved in the fiery Jan. 25 blast. A motive wasn’t clear.

Investigators had said Tuesday that accidental causes were ruled out. The house that blew up was vacant, but more than 50 other homes were damaged, including Calderwood’s.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Calderwood was represented by an attorney.
