Texas task force focuses on rapes of elderly women

SAN ANTONIO — Texas Gov. Rick Perry has ordered the creation of a major task force to investigate a suspected serial rapist targeting elderly Texas women.

At least eight women ranging in age from 65 to 91 have been raped or reported an attempted sexual assault in rural central Texas towns in the last year. Other women were robbed or, in the case of one 81-year-old, scared off an intruder by firing a gun.

Authorities believe all the cases are connected to a suspect who has been dubbed “The Twilight Rapist.”

Other recent major task forces have focused on the Fort Hood shootings and the raid of a West Texas polygamist sect’s compound,

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says at least one state investigator will now be assigned to the case full-time.
