2 held in $27,000 Aspen, Colo., shoplifting spree

ASPEN, Colo. — Discount retailer and Aspen aren’t words used together, so it wasn’t too difficult for an alleged shoplifting spree to rack up $27,000 worth of stolen goods.

Aspen police jailed two men this week on suspicion of stealing high-end clothing, champagne and other goods from at least six shops in Aspen and possibly from merchants in Vail.

Police say they found nearly 60 stolen items in a rental car, including jackets by North Face, Marmot, Polo and others, six bottles of Cristal champagne and Prada hats.

Investigators are contacting shops they believe the items were taken from.

The suspects are being held on $50,000 bail each on suspicion of theft, impersonation, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and possession of marijuana.
