Texas teen says he didn’t hire friend to kill mom

HOUSTON — A 17-year-old who Houston police say admitted hiring a friend to kill his mother is denying involvement in the stabbing death.

Police say Danish Minhas (Dah-NISH’ MIN’-hahs) told investigators he hired 18-year-old Nur J. Mohamed to kill his mother because she was too controlling. Police say both teens confessed.

But Minhas tells the Houston Chronicle in a jailhouse interview that he gave the statement to police “out of necessity” and points the finger at Mohamed alone. Mohamed declined to be interviewed.

Minhas called police Nov. 25 to say he found his 43-year-old mother fatally stabbed.

Police say Danish Minhas objected to rules that included having to be home by a certain hour and having to do chores.

Minhas tells the newspaper he misses his mother.
