Jamaican Muslim cleric to be deported from Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya’s immigration minister says the government will soon deport a Jamaican-born Muslim cleric who has previously been jailed in Britain for soliciting the murder of Jews and Hindus.

Otieno Kajwang says Sheik Abdullah el-Faisal entered Kenya from Tanzania on Dec. 24, and immigration officers did not know at the time who he was because of computer errors.

Kajwang said Monday that el-Faisal is on an international watch list.

In 2003, the cleric was sentenced to nine years in the U.K. after being convicted of incitement to murder and stirring racial hatred by urging followers to kill Hindus, Jews and Americans.

El-Faisal became eligible for parole and was deported from Britain upon his release in 2007.
