BAGHDAD - At least 28 people were killed and 22 injured Saturday in a suicide bombing attack on a bus carrying Shiite pilgrims in Iraq, security sources said.

The bomber, who was wearing an explosive belt, was on the bus taking Shiites to two large mosques in Samarra, some 112 km north of Baghdad.

Many Shiite pilgrims are visiting the city to commemorate the death of Imam al-Hassan al-Askari.

On Thursday, six people were killed and 40 injured in a car bomb attack targeting Shiites who were headed to Samarra.
