WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama condemned the “outrageous” suicide attack on a Moscow airport Monday and vowed to stand firmly with Russia in fighting terrorism.

“I strongly condemn this outrageous act of terrorism against the Russian people at the Domodedovo Airport,” Obama said in a statement read by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.

“I want to express the solidarity of the American people with the Russian people in the aftermath of this premeditated attack against innocent civilians,” he said.

The attack killed at least 35 people and injured 130. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called the incident a “terror attack”.

Russian media reports said the attacker was likely from Russia’s conflict-prone North Caucasus region.
