RAIPUR - At least two Maoists were killed Tuesday in a gunfight with the police in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district while six rebels were arrested, police said.

“Two Maoists were gunned down in a forested location in Bijapur in a fight with a contingent of the District Force (DF) and Special Police Officers (SPOs) during a combing operation,” Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Rajendra Das told reporters.

He added that the bodies of both the Maoists were recovered. Six rebels were arrested while over a dozen of them managed to escape into forests, Das said.

Bijapur is in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, some 450 km south of capital Raipur.
