RAIPUR - Three women Maoists were arrested Monday in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.

The women rebels, who are in early 20s, were picked up from an interior forested pocket in Bijapur district, about 450 km south from Raipur.

“The women were arrested by a patrolling team comprised of District Force (DF) and the special police officers (SPOs) in Potenar area. We believe they were linked to a few attacks,” said Additional Superintendent of Police B.P. Rajbhanu.

Bijapur is one of the India’s worst leftist insurgency-hit districts, where Maoists run a parallel government in its interiors since the late 1980s.
