22 injured in Turkey explosion

ISTANBUL - At least 22 people were injured in an explosion triggered by a suicide bomber in this capital city of Turkey Sunday.

The bombing occurred at the central Taksim Square of the city, in which 12 civilians and 10 policemen were injured, Xinhua quoted Istanbul Governor Avni Mutlu as saying.

Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin told reporters that two of the injured were in critical condition.

The explosion was set off by a male suicide bomber, Capkin added.

The Taksim Square is a main tourist attraction and a transport hub in Istanbul, surrounded by many restaurants and shops.
