Denver groups want officers on video beating fired

DENVER — Latino and African-American leaders in Denver are urging the city’s safety manager to fire two of the police officers caught on video roughing up residents.

They told Safety Manager Ron Perea on Thursday that he should fire the officers caught on video arresting 24-year-old Michael DeHerrera or he should resign.

The video shows an officer slamming DeHerrera to the ground before the camera moves back.

Perea has disciplined the officers but says the video doesn’t tell the whole story. Denver’s independent police monitor has recommended that the officers be fired.

The FBI has agreed to review the incident at Mayor John Hickenlooper’s request.
