SRINAGAR - Two army personnel - a captain and a soldier - were injured in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late Tuesday evening when separatist guerrillas fired at them, sources here said.

“A captain of the army and a jawan (soldier) were injured in Chatibandi area of Bandipora district this evening when hiding militants fired at a joint raiding party of the army and the local police,” a senior police officer said here.

The area has been cordoned off and because of darkness and heavy rains, searches would be started with the first light Wednesday morning, the officer added.

The joint raiding party went out following information that a group of separatist guerrillas was hiding in the area, the officer said. Reinforcements have been rushed to strengthen the cordon around the site.
