SRINAGAR - A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who was arrested here Saturday has confessed to his connections with the LeT plot to carry out terror strikes in Delhi, police said Sunday.

“Umar Zargar, a resident of Mahrajganj locality, was the kingpin of stone pelters in old city areas and also a top LeT operative,” a senior police officer told IANS here.

“He was scheduled to carry a consignment of arms and explosives to Delhi for the LeT plot to carry out strikes there, but luckily he wasarrested by the Mahrajgunj police station at that time on charges of masterminding stone pelting incidents in the city on April 22 and April 23,” the officer added.

“He was picked up yesterday (Saturday) for his suspected links with the LeT outfit. During sustained interrogation, Umar Zargar confessed he was an LeT operative with whose cadres he maintained links through e-mails in India and Pakistan,” he added.

“He also confessed he was to carry a consignment of arms and explosives to Delhi to help carry out LeT strikes there, but could not do so as he was arrested for stone pelting by police,” he said.

The arrested LeT operative was also in contact with some other LeT operatives in Delhi whose identity is being established now, police said.

Police have recovered a satellite phone from him.

A general alert has been sounded in Delhi following intelligence inputs that terror groups were planning to carry out major strikes in the national capital.
