Official: 5 hurt in Tenn. hospital shooting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — At least five people were injured Monday in a shooting at a Knoxville hospital, fire department spokesman Brent Seymour said.

Two of the victims were in critical condition. Seymour said he did not know the conditions of the other three.

The victims were outside Parkwest Medical Center in the discharge area when the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m, Seymour said. The hospital was on lockdown.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the shooter was among those injured.

Police Spokesman Darrell DeBusk said SWAT teams from the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department were searching floor to floor in the hospital as a precaution.
